Room: 31 ~ 9:45AM - 11:15AM (Monday, May 24, 2010)
Presented by:

Sponsored By: Bosch Security Systems

Mass notification is on the mind of every building campus manager today. Tragic shootings and terrorist threats are showing no signs of declining. Public and private authorities are starting to think differently about how we notify people in case of man-made emergencies. Pulling the fire alarm does not suffice any longer. Life safety Code 101 addressed high-rise buildings after the attacks on September, 11th, 2001. However even these codes are changing as NFPA 72 is now titled for the first time, "National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code." Signaling is now including new standards on speech intelligibility. The Speech Transmission Index will replace the Common Intelligibility Scale for the first time. This means some current fire alarm based voice notification systems might not pass future speech intelligibility requirements. Learn how these new national standards will affect and change fire standards as we know them today.

Organizational reliance upon technology has increased exponentially in this digital age. And while the technologies themselves have become more and more intuitive, the intricacies of interoperability make it increasingly difficult for IT professionals to ensure that the investments their organizations make in business enabling technologies actually yield the business benefit intended. Technology solutions don't simply make existing processes faster, whereby the absence of the technology would only slow things down. Instead, business process is now frequently designed with those technologies at their core, exposing an organization to considerable risk if even one of the multitude of interoperating parts doesn't function as intended. Therein lies the "Always On Imperative" where IT must ensure that technology is available where and when it's needed; demanding an intimate understanding of all of the components required to deliver a service and the key performance indicators associated with each. Atrion Networking Corporation has leveraged its managed services platform combined with people and process to help organizations address the "Always On Imperative". Learn how we've accomplished this and how you, can establish a similar approach in this session. Because physical security is converging onto the IT network, it is important for physical security integrators to understand IT Support and how it will affect the delivery of physical security solutions. Gain the insight into the IT support world with Atrion's IT Support Overview.Review Atrion's Time Box Solution, offered through Integrator Support. Time Box is a unique pre-paid calling card that can be used on demand to gain access to certified engineers that will work remotely to assist with IT network related issues when deploying physical security and video solutions.

The surveillance world has seen a number of key trends in recent years, including rising camera counts for better coverage, rapid increase in resolutions (due to technology commoditization) for better video data, and ever-extending retention times due to regulatory or best-practice requirements. These factors have pushed storage of video surveillance data in to a dominant cost factor for the security professional. The result: tight budgets that have to accommodate more and more storage to simply get the job done. This session will focus on technology from the information technology (IT) world to allow users to lower the cost and infrastructure needed to support this growing amount of data. Different approaches and technologies used to manage the lifecycle of video data will be reviewed, with the aim of providing tools to help reduce the cost of storing video data as that video ages and becomes less valuable to the business. Leveraged properly, these approaches to video data management can reduce storage requirements by 60 - 90%, allowing significant infrastructure reductions and budget re-allocation to other, high-return items such as increased camera coverage, analytics, and biometrics.
