Presented by: At the conclusion of the session, attendees will have a firm understanding of the various applications of intercom systems and their valuable role in creating a comprehensive security system. The presentation will identify the importance of intercom and the full scope of functions it can serve from a supplementary access control tool to critical communication such as mass notification and emergency broadcasting. Participants will learn to assess various applications of intercom systems within diverse security settings. The benefit of utilizing an intercom system in jails, prisons, commercial and industrial facilities, schools and numerous other environments will be explored. Attendees will subsequently understand how to implement customized solutions that will thrive in virtually any distinctive setting. Unique integrations with existing security equipment will be discussed, giving the audience information about unfamiliar intercom capabilities that enhance the functionality of any security system. Utilizing specific installation techniques related to wiring and architecture can save costs while maximizing profits. These different installation options will be investigated, allowing the audience to make alternative choices to traditional methods in the future. Intercom's integral function in life safety applications will also be addressed, delving into the role of two-way communication in today's emergency plans. Compliance with current NFPA and ADA codes is discussed, providing attendees with the knowledge necessary to fulfill these regulations through the implementation of intercom systems. Presented by: Mass notification is on the mind of every building campus manager today. Tragic shootings and terrorist threats are showing no signs of declining. Public and private authorities are starting to think differently about how we notify people in case of man-made emergencies. Pulling the fire alarm does not suffice any longer. Life safety Code 101 addressed high-rise buildings after the attacks on September, 11th, 2001. However even these codes are changing as NFPA 72 is now titled for the first time, "National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code." Signaling is now including new standards on speech intelligibility. The Speech Transmission Index will replace the Common Intelligibility Scale for the first time. This means some current fire alarm based voice notification systems might not pass future speech intelligibility requirements.
