2T-015-M: Mass Notification & Voice Evacuation in 2010
Room: 31 ~ 9:45AM - 11:15AM (Monday, May 24, 2010)
Presented by:

Sponsored By: Bosch Security Systems

Mass notification is on the mind of every building campus manager today. Tragic shootings and terrorist threats are showing no signs of declining. Public and private authorities are starting to think differently about how we notify people in case of man-made emergencies. Pulling the fire alarm does not suffice any longer. Life safety Code 101 addressed high-rise buildings after the attacks on September, 11th, 2001. However even these codes are changing as NFPA 72 is now titled for the first time, "National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code." Signaling is now including new standards on speech intelligibility. The Speech Transmission Index will replace the Common Intelligibility Scale for the first time. This means some current fire alarm based voice notification systems might not pass future speech intelligibility requirements. Learn how these new national standards will affect and change fire standards as we know them today.
Presenter:
Dipal Shah, Bosch Security Systems, Inc.
2T-144-M: Layered Approach to Mass Notification
Room: 26 ~ 12:45PM - 2:15PM (Monday, May 24, 2010)
Presented by:

Sponsored By: Talk-A-Phone Co.

A new Mass Notification approach was needed: scalable to infrastructure upgrades, adaptable to technological advancements, and nimble enough to deliver intelligible messages to thousands of recipients virtually in real time. With inclusion of the Mass Notification technology in the NFPA72: National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code, 2010 edition, it became clear that Mass Notification went mainstream. Now more then ever it is important to understand the strengths and weaknesses of each notification medium. Which ultimately leads to the question: how many notification layers should be utilized to adequately inform the entire campus population? Learn the layered approach to Mass Notification, Receive education on NFPA and HEOA, Understand the mass notification system design and components, Learn how to integrate Talk-A-Phone's line of Mass Notification and Emergency Communications products, Receive the formal certificate of course completion. Basic understanding of Networking and TCP/IP technology is required.
Presenter:
Robert Shanes, Talk-A-Phone Co.

Power problems, especially an outage, can wreak havoc if careful planning and consideration is not taken into account. In fact, having a security system operational during a power outage is even more important than when power is present. We all know that enterprise assets such as security systems, fire alarm systems, telephone systems, servers, computers, and other essential peripheral devices are powered by electricity. These mission critical assets are an integral part of daily operations, no matter what size the organization. What happens when inevitable power problems occur? During this informative session, attendees will learn about the vital issues surrounding power protection and about three real scenarios where power protection played an important role in preventing further disaster.
